Mill View and Orchard Cottage are identical self catering holiday cottages designed for couples and families of up to 4. These attractive cottages, in a timber-clad barn conversion on Totman Farm, stand on the brow of the hill at the southern end of the beautiful medieval town of Thaxted. They are surrounded by lovely rolling countryside with views of Thaxted's cathedral-like church and windmill in the distance. |

Mill View and Orchard Cottage are set well back from the road and are mirror-images of each other; each has a patio area and backs on to a two and a half acre meadow. This attractive rural location is only a few minutes walk from a choice of pubs, a restaurant, shops and bus services. Each cottage comprises a sitting/dining room with a TV, video, radio, CD and cassette players; a well equipped modern kitchen with fridge, freezer, gas hob, electric oven, washing machine, microwave and coffee machine; a family bedroom containing a double bed and full size bunk beds with lovely views from the Velux windows and an en-suite bathroom. The cottages have wooden floors downstairs, carpet in the bedroom and ceramic tiles in the bathroom. Bedlinen and towels are included in the price. Bed and Breakfast suites are also available. |

Ample car parking space is available. The cottages back onto meadowland and guests are virtually guaranteed glorious sunsets from their own patio. A small orchard provides a shady area with additional seating - a very relaxing place to read a book or just take a well earned rest. |

The rural location is ideal for relaxing with good amenities within a short walk. The area is also good for touring the surrounding villages of Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Thaxted grew around a Saxon settlement along the old Roman road and boasts a magnificent 14th century church, a half-timbered Guildhall and a restored windmill. The annual Thaxted Music Festival takes place in June/July and is held in the spectacular setting of the Church. Within a short drive are Saffron Walden, Linton Zoo, Mole Hall Wildlife Park, The House on the Hill Toy Museum, Mountfitchet Castle & Norman Village of 1066 and Audley End House and Gardens. A little further afield is the University City of Cambridge which offers punting on the River Cam, tours of the ancient colleges and Kings College Chapel, excellent restaurants, pubs, shopping and the Corn Exchange Theatre. Braintree has a designer shopping village. Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town and has a castle museum, parks and a zoo. Southend-on-Sea boasts the longest pleasure pier in the world, a five mile seaside promenade, fish and chips and slot machines. Stansted airport is just 7 miles distant and has rail links to London Liverpool Street station, enabling guests to easily visit London’s West End. |
