Relax in style in a country home full of character. Swynnerton lies on the edge of the charming town of Hay-on-Wye, renowned as 'The Town of Books', with its award winning ice creams, antique shops and galleries. Dulais Brook - which marks the Welsh border - trickles down the valley a hundred yards from Swynnerton while a few minutes away from the house, up Cusop Hill, brings guests to waterfalls and footpaths into the countryside. |

Swynnerton is a fine Victorian residence with touches of opulence throughout. Generous accommodation for seven/eight guests is provided in a full range of reception rooms and five bedrooms making this Herefordshire holiday home a delightful setting for family holidays, get-togethers and short breaks. The country kitchen looks into a fully enclosed courtyard and houses a Welsh dresser, a range cooker and full selection of mod cons. This leads into a cosy breakfast room, with tiled floor and a cast iron Herefordshire range. Ground floor cloakroom off the kitchen. A magnificent African teak table, seating eight - perfect for entertaining - dominates the plush dining room while at the other end of the house lies the conservatory, perfect for relaxing back with a cup of tea. French doors lead into the sitting room, a mixture of shabby chic and modern comforts. Off the mezzanine landing on the first floor are two double bedrooms with marble fireplaces, gas fires and views over the Wye Valley. The splendid luxurious first floor bathroom, hung with chandeliers, has an open fire and roll top bath. Pitch pine stairs take you to the top floor with a further double bedroom containing antique French furniture and a quirky en-suite. A further bedroom containing twin beds has far reaching views. The back bedroom contains a three quarter brass bed which can sleep two. For families with children, a cot and high chair are available. With good walking from the door and magnificent views close by of the Black Mountains and the patchwork fields of this rural county, there is plenty of opportunity to be outdoors. If walking is not your scene, you can travel by horse, bike or canoe; all are catered for in the area. You can also fish, climb and pothole, abseil and mountain board - pretty much all outdoor activities are catered for. History buffs will be interested in the earth wall King Offa of Mercia built to protect himself from the Welsh. For the culture lover May, June, July and October bring the key Hay Festivals of literature, food and music but there is much more throughout the year. The area abounds with quality food from the free range eggs, to be found for sale outside private houses, to the Michelin starred pub, The Stag, at Titley. Brecon, Hereford, Ludlow, Ross on Wye and the Forest of Dean are all easily accessible. See www.hay-on-wye.co.uk for more useful information and events. |
