Orchard Mains Barn has been converted with care and enthusiasm and the owners feel "A lot of love and thought has gone into the rebuilding of the barn and we think there is a Good Feel to the Place and would like to share it with you." This comfortable rural property is entered through a porch, ideal for changing boots and outdoor clothes, on into a large light sitting room with a multi fuel stove (all fuel free), TV with Sky and a video. A CD player is for guests’ own CDs and the selection provided. A bed-settee in this room accommodates an extra 2 people. Three steps lead back into the hall, where, directly ahead, is the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven and hob, a dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer and a cold water filter for the water supplied from a spring on the hill at the back of the house. Back into the hall and to the right is the bathroom with both a bath, for long soaks after a busy day, and an over the bath shower. Upstairs are the two double bedrooms. The yellow bedroom has a double bed and space, if required, for a cot or a futon for 2 small children. The lilac bedroom is the family room, with a double bed and 2 single beds. |

There is ample parking both next to the farm and beside the barn. A gate into the property leads onto a sun trap patio area with table and chairs from which to enjoy the magnificent surrounding countryside and a border area with shrubs, flowers and containers which then leads into the porch…. |

There are outdoor pursuits and places of interest to visit straight from the front door, and Orchard Mains Barn is within a 45 minute drive of Edinburgh and all its attractions. There are hills to climb straight from the house, not high but steep, and, for the less energetic, a particularly easy walk up the Glen to Loch Eddy - ideal for a picnic, and if you are very lucky, a glimpse of the otters and ospreys fishing. Two good Mountain Biking Centres, Innerleithen and Glentress are nearby. Within 5 minutes is good fishing on the River Tweed. The excellent golf course at Cadrona is just 4 miles away.
The
Scottish Borders offer a wealth of activities for the sporty -
fishing, cycling, walking and golfing are all easily accessed from the
house. If all this talk of activity is making you feel tired you can
return to the comfort of the barn, put up a deck chair, sit under the
willow tree, open a bottle of wine and read a book beside the Quair
River, which runs at the bottom of the garden, bliss! The farm is
within walking distance of Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house
in Scotland, and a really good day out. |
