Local area
Moor End is in an area of Special Landscape Value. There is an extensive local footpath network and guests are welcome to use the many conservation headlands around the fields. There has been extensive tree planting carried out by the owners, over the last six years over 20,000 trees have been planted. There is an abundance of local flora and fauna in the old meadows and hedgerows.
The Granary at Moor End Farm offers holiday lets in North Essex close to the borders of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. These holiday cottages are ideally situated for exploring East Anglia, with quick and easy access to the M11 motorway and the A120/A12.
The farm lies between the villages of Great Easton and Broxted, only five miles from the ancient Flitch town of Great Dunmow and the medieval village of Thaxted.
Saffron Walden market town is a short drive away, as are the picturesque villages of Finchingfield, the most photographed village in Essex, the Bardfields and Stebbing.
London is a forty minute drive or train ride away.
The University City of Cambridge is within easy reach, also by train or car. Excellent transport links by road via the M11 and A120, by air from Stansted Airport and train services from Saffron Walden and Bishop’s Stortford.
Sleeps 2 in 1 bedroom
The Stable is an attractive character cottage of typical Essex wood and stone construction with a studio layout.
Beneath lovely dark roof beams at one end is the kitchenette with breakfast bar/dining table. Exposed stonework links through to the seating area with TV.
Original beams provide a lattice wall between the sitting areas and the double bedroom. There is a modern shower room.
Single storey, Sleeps 2 in one bedroom
The Stable and The Byre are well appointed and roomy, self contained one bedroom units. Each consists of a sitting room, kitchen, dining area and bathroom with shower.
Converted from an old stable block, The Byre is a single storey, one bedroom cottage, carefully designed to maximise the space and retain the character of the Victorian building.
The entrance hall leads into the open plan living space. Attractively furnished with exposed roof beams it includes a well equipped kitchen and a full size bathroom. It overlooks the Granary courtyard
Sleeps 4 in 2 large bedrooms
Named for its three floor-to-ceiling windows which make up one wall of the downstairs area, The Arches is a light spacious cottage for 4-6. The downstairs is of open plan design with a modern fitted kitchen with dining area and a sitting room with views out to its private fenced gravel courtyard.
Upstairs consists of a double bedroom with exposed brickwork, a twin bedroom with timber beams and a bathroom with WC, basin and a shower over the bath. Linen and towels are provided free of charge.
The windowed wall faces east and overlooks fields. It is flooded with morning sunshine. Tastefully furnished to a high degree of comfort The Arches has electric central heating throughout.
Sleeps 6 in 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed
The Willows and The Dairy are extremely spacious and have been tastefully furnished to a high degree of comfort.
Named after the family connection with the manufacture of cricket bats, the Willows is slightly larger than The Arches and can sleep six, using a sofa bed. Of interest are the old wooden staircase and other original fittings.
Downstairs the large open plan area comprises a comfortable sitting room with exposed brickwork, full dining table and chairs to seat 6 and a fitted country style kitchen. The kitchen is fully fitted with everything you may need for your stay.
Upstairs there are two spacious bedrooms – a light master bedroom with large French doors and an additional bed and a twin bedroom. The modern bathroom contains a WC, basin, bath and shower.
Sleeps 6 in 2 en-suite bedrooms
The Willows and The Dairy are extremely spacious and have been tastefully furnished to a high degree of comfort.
The Dairy is the biggest of the cottages with ample room for six.
Downstairs, the living area displays many original features. The tiled floor has under-floor heating and the country kitchen, which is fully fitted, contains everything you may need for your stay.
This opens into the dining area with a pine table and chairs and the sitting area with a feature brick fireplace, exposed bricks, TV and DVD player.
Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms. The master bedroom is a large airy room with double glass doors leading onto a pretty iron balcony.
The second bedroom contains a double bed and a set of bunk beds, making it perfect for a family. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.
Moor End is a 420 acre (170 hectare) arable farm worked by the same family since 1935. The Granary was built in the 1880s by the Countess of Warwick as a model farm for the mixed farming of that era. This Victorian Granary has now been sympathetically converted into 5 self contained holiday homes.
This 4 Star farm holiday accommodation for couples and families of 4-6 is comfortable, stylish and well equipped. The largest country cottages sleeps 6 in 2 bedrooms, while the smaller ones for couples - working or on holiday – are equally well equipped and full of character.
