Welsh lettings and holidays

The village of Mathry is situated midway between St Davids and Fishguard, within walking distance of a beautiful stretch of the Pembrokeshire National Park Coastal Path with many hidden coves and secret beaches.

Mathry has changed very little over the last 60 years. Village facilities comprise a church, shop/post office, tea room, wood turners workshop and a friendly pub serving food, all within a few minutes walk.

A 'green lane' goes from near the barn down to Abermawr beach (2 miles) and there are lots of country lanes winding down to the coast to explore either on foot or bicycle as well as the wonderful walking on the Pembrokeshire coastal path. Abermawr is a long shingle beach at high tide but at lower tide has acres of magnificent sand, revealing occasionally the remains of a 6,000 year old forest.

The area has plenty of white sandy beaches and offers wonderful coastal walking, horse riding, cycling, watersports, boat trips, bird watching, seal, porpoise and dolphin spotting, bathing and rock pooling.

St Davids, with its magnificent medieval cathedral, art galleries and gift shops lies 7 miles west of Mathry. From here, you can book boat trips to the outlying islands to spot seals, sea birds and porpoises. It is also possible to rent surfboards, boogie boards, kayaks and surf skis.

The small market town of Fishguard is 7 miles east offering a choice of pubs and restaurants and a daily ferry to Ireland.

Ten minutes drive away is the old quarry port of Porthgain with the Sloop Inn ('the best pub in the county') and art galleries. Fishing trips operate daily during the summer from here and freshly caught lobster can be bought.

Also nearby is Priskilly golf course, the working woollen mill at Tregwynt, Llangloffan Cheese Farm where there is a restaurant specialising in local fish dishes, bike rental at Parcynole Fach and pony trekking.
