    Local area
Elly House, in Ireland's most beautiful county has truly superb views over Lough Swilly, the hills of Inishowen and the surrounding countryside. Nearby Rathmullan village has a wonderful sandy beach and lively local pubs - often featuring traditional music. Guests can visit the local Flight of The Earls Heritage Centre which tells of the last days of the great Irish chieftains, or take a trip on Lough Swilly aboard one of the charter boats operating from the small pier marina.

A car ferry service operates across The Swilly to Buncrana. Here there is a leisure centre with swimming pool and one of Donegal's finest outdoor kid's play areas. Travelling onwards from Buncrana guests can visit the many attractions Inishowen has to offer including The Gun's of Dunree military museum, the Ballyliffin Golf Club – a very popular links course and Greencastle Maritime Museum which charts the history of seafaring in the area.

The pier is also popular with water sport enthusiasts and sea anglers. The local Golden Sands Equestrian Centre organises pony trekking sessions and holds week long courses for children in horse grooming and care. For the golf enthusiast, it is only a 15 minute drive to the magnificent 18 hole links course at Portsalon while Ireland's second oldest golf course, Otway (9 holes) is only a 5 minute drive away.

Venturing further guests can take the car ferry from Greencastle to visit The Giant's Causeway and Bushmill's Distillery, two of Northern Ireland's top attractions.

Donegal's largest town, Letterkenny, is only a 25 minute drive along the Lough Swilly coast.  This thriving town has a wide selection of shops and restaurants and also features a multi-screen cinema, An Grianan Theatre, swimming pool, a lovely town park and Arena 7, which has a new kids adventure playground, bar, restaurant and ten pin bowling lanes.
