Kendal Holiday Cottage Rental: Traditional Self Catering Farmhouse Cumbria Lake District/Yorkshire Dales

Interior
The character of this farmhouse is immediately apparent on arrival. The entrance hall, with original slate flagged floor, leads to a large comfortable living room complete with TV, video, open fire and traditional oak beams. This, in turn, leads to a spacious dining area, again with oak beams, and both rooms overlook the patio and gardens. The large well equipped modern kitchen includes a dishwasher and fridge/freezer. In addition there is a downstairs shower room and WC.

Open tread oak stairs lead to two extremely spacious double bedrooms, (one of which can, alternatively, have twin beds), both with views of Farleton Knot. The third bedroom contains twin beds and has views of the surrounding countryside. The modern family bathroom has a second separate electric shower.

The farmhouse benefits from full gas central heating. Initial fuel for the open fire is provided. Equipment includes a TV, video, automatic washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave. A cot and highchair are available on request. Duvets with linen provided.

Outside
The large garden includes a patio with furniture. Private fishing is available by arrangement.

Local area
The villages of Milnthorpe, Beetham and Holme, all with a selection of shops and excellent pubs and restaurants, are within a 1 mile radius. Local historic walks, Wildlife Oasis, National Trust Sizergh and RSPB Leighton Moss Bird Reserve are within 5 miles. The market towns of Kendal and Kirby Lonsdale, with golf courses, are only 8 miles away. The many attractions of the Lake District are all within reach, including Lake Windermere and Bowness (16 miles), and Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, Helvelyn and the Old Man of Coniston within 45 minutes drive. Also the Yorkshire Dales are only 20 miles away. Kiln Green Farmhouse provides an excellent base for every leisure activity.

Kendal
Kendal is an old market town situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country – the English Lake District. Kendal is also within 30 minutes drive of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a perfect base for walkers and sightseers alike. The town’s unique blend of history, culture and shopping make it a very popular destination for visitors.

Attractions
There are attractions for all ages, fascinating museums, modern and historic art and a variety of leisure facilities. The shopping is diverse with many High Street names but the town is known particularly for specialist shops – quality independent traders offering a range of goods unrivalled anywhere in the Lake District.

Kirby Lonsdale
There are many riverside and country walks in the Kirkby Lonsdale district and Devil's Bridge over the River Lune is one of the particular features of interest. A number of  large stones in the Kirkby Lonsdale district, including the Great Stone of Fourstones, are ascribed to the purse-strings of the Devil bursting open as he carried masonry to build the bridge.  These days the medieval Devil's Bridge is a scheduled ancient monument and renowned as a meeting place for motorbike enthusiasts on Sundays.

It’s also well worth visiting St.Mary's Church in Kirkby Lonsdale which boasts fine carved columns and dates back to 11th century Norman times. The view of the River Lune from St.Mary's churchyard is known as Ruskin's View as John Ruskin was a great fan and it‘s been painted by Turner
