Allonby Bay, 0.5mile away down a country lane, is an award winning beach with shops, a pub and restaurants. The Northern and West Lakes, are easily reached from these vacation properties on the Cumbria coast. Also within easy reach are Carlisle, the Scottish Borders and Gretna Green.
Maryport is dramatically located on the beautiful Solway Firth. Famed for its glorious sunsets the town offers sweeping views, seasidee walks, sea and beach angling, golf links, coastal sailing and lively pubs.
Cockermouth, lying just outside the boundary of the Lake District National Park, is a peaceful market town dating from the 12th century at the confluence of the Rivers Cocker and Derwent. As the birthplace of Dorothy and William Wordsworth the town takes pride in its literary connection and Wordsworth House, (National Trust) is open to the public. The town was also the home of Fletcher Chrstian who lead the 'Mutiny on the Bounty'.
Historic Cockermouth lies close to Bassenthwaite, Crummock Water, Ennerdale and Loweswater. A popular market town it is far less crowded than many other Cumbrian towns with a partly ruined Norman castle still occupied by Lady Egremont and only open to the public once a year during the Town Festival. Worth a visit are the Creighton Mineral and Fossil Museum and the Lakeland Sheep and Wool Centre. The respected Jenning's Brewery also offers regular public tours.
