Local area
The cottage is located on the southern edge of Carmarthen, which offers a market, a castle and other historic sites, a good range of shops and a local theatre.
Llanstephan beach is just 4 miles away and if you wish to travel further there are other seaside resorts within reach including Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pendine, Amroth and the Gower Peninsular.
There is plenty to do in this area of Carmarthenshire with activities ranging from fishing, golfing and cycling to horse riding and pony trekking.
There are steam trains and castles too in this area of South West Wales. There are many more parks to visit. The historic town of Kidwelly, Laugharne Castle and the Taf estuary are all nearby. The National Botanic Garden of Wales is situated in the Tywi Valley to the east of Carmarthen town.
Carmarthen
The castle remains are a focal point of the town. Merlin is said to have lived nearby as did King Arthur of the legend. The area is steeped in history and myth and forms an ideal central location to explore the history and countryside of South West Wales. Carmarthen's County Museum is located in the old Bishop's Palace at Abergwili and is a few minute's drive from the town centre. There is plenty of free parking and easy walks in the ground of the old Palace. The museum has undergone many improvements to bring it more into line with what visitors expect and it is well worth a visit. The County Museum also has other buildings, Parc Howard at Llanelli, The Museum of Speed at Pendine and an Industrial Museum at Kidwelly.
